The 2019 Mombasa Rally set for August 17-18 will have dynamism in form of a night stage that drivers will first tackle as they bid to rake in points.

Already, excitement has already grippedmotoring enthusiasts at the Coast owing to an influx of super cars that are bound to add zest in the competitions beginning with the eagerly awaited night stage that has not been observed for the last few years.

The night-stage will be the onset of the rally and will be held at the Mombasa Cement Factory in Vipingo area which marks competitive Stage One. After drivers feel a taste of the beginning stage, Day Two will take them to the cashewnuts growing area of Kilifi where they will traverse Bamba.

The fascinating car race, organised and sponsored by Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), has attracted the crème-de-la-crème of the country’s drivers.

 Among the attractions is top contender and five-time Safari Rally champion Carl ‘Flash’ Tundo, who will be steering a Mitsubishi Evolution 10 and defending champion Baldev Chager who will be driving a similar make.

For rally lovers, they will be keeping their fingers crossed as they are yet to discern who between the two doyens will prevail in the same make of vehicle.  Other notable names include Onkar Rai who will be driving a Skoda Fabia and Jasmeet Channa.

In Division One, a protracted battle looms between youngsters Karan Patel (Evolution 10 and Mombasa-based Sohana Puee (Subaru N 10).

For Puee who is the outgoing Division Two champion, the rally presents him with a grand opportunity to shine since he will be drivingin his home turf where he enjoys partisan support.

Honours will also be vied for in the 2WD class where multiple champion, Leonardo Varese will face stiff challenge from youthful Daren Miranda, who will be behind the wheels of a vehicle (Toyota Sprinter) that was once owned by KNRC driver Dennis Mwenda.
