Omalla’s return crucial for Gor Mahia chase for a double – Mihic

Gor Mahia Coach Sinisa Mihic believes the return of Benson Omalais a timely boost for the club’s quest for a double in the 2025 campaign.
The prolific striker had a dream return, notching a goal in Gor’s 2-0 win over Bandari Fc in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup on Saturday.
The match was Omalla’s first coming off a lengthy hiatus from competitive action occasioned by a troubling stint in Lebanon, exacerbated by the delay of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) document.
After ending the 2024 season among the league‘s top scorers, Omalla left Gor Mahia after signing for Algerian side Saoura FC on a loan deal in February 2024.
Months later, the former Manyatta Youth striker was unveiled by Lebanese side, Al Safa for his maiden professional stint abroad after the Algerian move fell through.
Omalla’s transfer troubles
In a situation akin to a Déjà vu, proceedings turned sour with the move proving short-lived after the Lebanon club released the star in unclear circumstances, prompting his return to Kenya.
The Premier League giants on April 9 confirmed eligibility to feature again for the side following his clearance by FIFA.

Omalla had been training with Gor Mahia and was the subject of transfer interest from KPL rivals, Shabana FC.
Speaking on his return, Mihic expressed optimism about the early signs of a player he admitted to knowing little about.
“He(Benson) is a serious player. We have those who know him better than me but I have heard about him and his 20 goals every season,” he said.
Gor title chase
Omalla’s return comes as Gor Mahia seeks to shore up its quest in what has been a faltering bid to defend its league title.
The club is eyeing a record-extending 22nd league title with less than nine games to conclude the campaign. Mihic believes his coming will prove timely.
“So now that he is back, we are a very good team with very good players on the bench. I think we are now on the path to defending our title,” Mihic stressed.
