Olunga’s coach impressed as Harambee Star equals record

Al Duhail head coach Christophe Galtier has revealed he was impressed with how his team played to secure a win against Al-Wakrah on Friday, February 7, 2025, at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium.
Michael Olunga was among the scorers as the Qatar Stars League’s heavyweights claimed a 2-0 victory. The Harambee Stars captain scored the second goal in the 56th minute as his side also kept a clean sheet.
Olunga’s goal meant that he has equalled his season’s record of nine goals from last season.
To his coach, the victory was vital given that, according to the tactician, levels in the previous games were not impressive.
“We achieved an important victory against a team that enjoys high levels after a series of consecutive matches below the usual level. It was necessary to make some adjustments on the level of the lineup in order to add more enthusiasm and change the rhythm of the game during this match.
“What made me most happy was the players’ commitment and the continuity of the strong performance throughout both halves of the match. The substitutes also contributed positively in addition to the rest of the team players. An important victory gave us a strong boost before the upcoming match versus Al Sadd in about two weeks from now,” Galtier said as quoted by the club’s website.

Olunga and his Al Duhail SC teammates will face Al Sadd in their next game.
“Next week we will work on preparing for the match against Al Sadd and take advantage of the break period to hold a friendly match in addition to working on restoring the readiness of all players in order to complete the full squad before this decisive match,” the coach stated.
