Olunga’s brace propels Al Duhail to semis of prestigious tournament
Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga scored twice to help Al Duhail SC reach the semi-final of the Amir Cup.
Al Duhail were 3-2 winners in a clash against Al Arabi at Al Janoub Stadium on the evening of Monday, May 13, 2024. Meanwhile, it was Youssef Msakni who opened the scoring for Al Arabi in the third minute.
This prompted Al Duhail to fight hard and score through Michael Olunga, who found the back of the net five minutes after they had gone down. The Harambee Star rose high to meet a cross from Al Moez and powered it into the net for the equaliser.
More goals
Al Arabi quickly fought back and scored their second in the 10th minute, with Msakani finding the back of the net after capitalising on Salah Zakaria’s off-line position.
The high-octane match saw the third goal scored in the 25th minute when Phillipe Coutinho struck in favour of Olunga’s side. The former Barcelona and Aston Villa forward took advantage of a chance created by Al Moez and struck past Al Arabi’s goalkeeper at close range.
There were two chances for Al Duhail that were not converted; Ismail squandered a chance before another was wasted by Olunga, with the giants looking in control of the game now.
Olunga struck in the 59th minute to reward his teammates with a goal after a relentless fight into the second half. The assist for Olunga came from the hardworking Brazilian forward, Coutinho.
