Oilers yearn for more accolades after finally claiming Prinsloo title
The race for the national sevens overall title is expected to be a tight affair between five leading teams.
Action galore is expected at the Bull Ring in Kakamega for the sixth and final leg of the series and it remains to be seen who amongst the teams shall carry the day.
With KCB gunning to defend the title, stiff challenge is expected from the likes of Menengai Oilers who stunned them at the cup semi-final stage enroute to winning the Prinsloo title.
Oilers are now in the lead with 94 points, four ahead of KCB with Gibson Weru’s side more than ready to cash in on the advantage going into the decider.
The maximum KCB can reach is 112 while Oilers ceiling is 116 with the two teams having an equal chance of winning the title.
Oilers beat Strathmore Leos 12-7 to be crowned the Prinsloo sevens champions, thus becoming the fifth side to bag a silverware after Homeboyz, Mwamba, Strathmore and KCB.
During a highly pitched battle, Oilers found Strathmore an easy target and converted two tries during the early exchanges to lead 12-0 at half time.
Oilers scored their points in the first half while Strathmore who are perched in the third position with 85 points nailed theirs in the second half after Geoffrey Ominde was sin-binned.
In the meantime, Homeboyz rose to fourth place with 77 points while Mwamba dropped to fourth place with 73 points.
