Gor Mahia attacker Austin Odhiambo has urged the club’s fans to remain disciplined and refrain from invading the pitch before the team’s coronation for their 21st FKF Premier League title this Sunday in Machakos.

In 2023, Gor Mahia’s 20th title celebration faced criticism when FKF deviated from the traditional ceremony setup.

The team received their medals in the VIP area at Kasarani Stadium, instead of the usual champion podium with an arc, red carpet, and Champions pause banner, due to an enthusiastic crowd invading the pitch after the final whistle.

Despite efforts to clear the field, the overwhelming fan presence made it impossible to proceed as planned, prompting FKF to move the ceremony to the VIP area for safety reasons.

This weekend, Gor Mahia are set for the coronation of their 21st title at Machakos Stadium, which is considered porous. Odhiambo has appealed to fans to maintain discipline and allow for an organized celebration.

“I would like to urge Gor Mahia fans to maintain discipline so that we can have a perfect celebration. If you invade the pitch, we will not celebrate our victory as it deserves and as organized. Let us celebrate the trophy in a good way. We know we are used to this, but let’s be disciplined and let us enjoy the moment,” Odhiambo told Gor Mahia TV.

Having secured their 21st title in round 31, Kogalo have amassed 70 points from 33 matches. They will face Bidco United at Machakos Stadium in their final fixture.

This match will also mark Johnathan McKinstry’s farewell in the FKF Premier League before he assumes his new role as head coach of Gambia, a position he signed for in May.

Meanwhile, Tusker FC and Kenya Police have secured second and third place, respectively.

Attention will also be on the relegation battle, with Nzoia Sugar already relegated. Sofapaka, Muhoroni Youth, and Shabana are vying to avoid the dreaded drop.

Sofapaka currently occupy the relegation playoff spot, two points behind 15th-placed Shabana with 35 points, while Muhoroni Youth sit in 17th place with 31 points. Sofapaka will host Nzoia Sugar, Muhoroni Youth will host Posta Rangers, and Shabana will face Murang’a Seal in their crucial final matches.
