Nepal beat Kenya to win six matches of Bi-Series cricket contest
Kenya’s woes in the Cricket arena continued on Monday following the seven-wicket loss to Nepal in the last Bi-Series contest between the two nations played at Nairobi Gymkhana.
The East Asian side who have been in the country for 10 days has won six of eight matches in Kenya against their hosts in what has been an important learning phase for the local youngsters.
Team Kenya coached by David Obuya lost all three 50-over duels in spiralling fashion with their bowling areas most wanting, especially on the chase.
Last Friday, Kenya lost by seven wickets and a day afterwards they lost again albeit by a meagre 17 runs as Coach Obuya effected changes in the squad.
Nepal had set a target of 231 on the board and Kenya worked hard where the former Captain Rakep Patel was most impressive with 81 runs off 98 balls.
Home team
The bowling of Vraj Patel who had collectively 10 wickets in the entire tournament was also a positive for the home team.
“We lacked a killer punch even where opportunities gifted us. The lower order of batsmen in this tournament held us and also credit to my spinners like Shem Ngoche (Captain) and Vraj Patel who ensured we did not go down without a fight. Credit to Nepal for giving us a good opportunity to learn and which I would say; the youngsters picked vital lessons,” stated Obuya.
In Monday’s final showdown, Man of the Match Collins Obuya (843 runs off 111 balls) and Lucas Oluoch Ndandason (59 runs off 27 balls), had set a defensible target of 255 on the board for the hosts despite losing nine wickets. However, Nepal had the trio of Arjun Saud (58 runs off 90 balls),Asif Sheikh (56 runs off 43 balls) and Bashir Ahmed (52 runs off 49 balls) to their advantage.
In the second innings of the match which saw Nepal post 259 runs on the board, Rohit Kumar (46 runs off 46 balls) was not out as the numbers for the visitors shored up. The match saw Vraj Patel steal two wickets inside 47 runs.
