Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League Police FC coach Etienne Ndayiragije has maintained that the team’s hunt for the league are on course, despite the setback suffered against Ulinzi Stars in the match week 27 league tie played on Friday, April 18, 2025.

The defeat inflicted by Boniface Muchiri’s strike early in the second half could prove costly for Police’s quest for the league title, with the law enforcer failing to stretch its one-point advantage atop the league standings.

The permutations of the defeat are likely to show on Saturday as close challengers, Tusker FC (on 48 points) and Gor Mahia (46 points), fancy the chances to topple the team from the summit.

With second-placed Tusker FC not in action until Sunday, the reigning champions, Gor, are mulling the prospect of jumping to the top when they face Sofapaka on Saturday.

A victory will guarantee Sinisa Mihic a temporary spot at the helm, with a possibility of extending the gap even further looking viable when they play their remaining game in hand.

The Burundian coach is, however, bullish, stating the team won’t be giving up on their season’s targets.

“We are not under any type of pressure. You need to understand where we are and how we got here. We are fully aware of our situation and remain hopeful and focused. We are determined to reach our goals, and we will keep fighting to achieve them,” he said.

During the tie, Police FC was undone by an early injury to midfield lynchpin Kenneth Muguna before a late dismissal of Baraka Badi saw proceedings take a turn for the worse.

The Burundian has, however, attributed the loss to a tepid display in front of the goal for the side that also missed the services of influential newcomer Mohammed Bajaber.

“We got chances, but unfortunately couldn’t utilise them. I must congratulate our opponents too: they had a good game. They were good defensively and on the offensive. They made their chances count, unlike us,” he said.

Saturday, April 19, will see three games take centre stage, with Gor Mahia traveling to Sofapaka at Dandora Stadium at 3:00 pm.

Mara Sugar and KCB will battle at Awendo Stadium at 2:00 pm.

Bandari are set to play Kakamega Homeboyz in the other match on Saturday, scheduled to kick off at 3:00 pm at Mbaraki Stadium.

On Sunday, Muranga Seal are set to face Kariobangi Sharks in Murang’a, whereas Bidco United and Mathare United will tackle each other at Kenyatta Stadium at 1:00 pm.

Second-placed Tusker FC will be up against Nairobi City Stars in a late kickoff in Machakos. FC Talanta will play host to Shabana
