National netball teams prepare for Africa Cup after five-day training boost
Kenya Netball Federation (KNF) successfully concluded a five-day umpires and coaches training workshop on Saturday in Nairobi, attracting 87 participants from 25 counties across the country.
Speaking at the closing ceremony held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex Indoor Arena, KNF president Immaculate Kabutha expressed optimism about the growth trajectory of netball in Kenya, commending the enthusiasm and dedication of the participants.
“We have been here for five days, and the knowledge gained is invaluable. It is also heartening to see coaches and umpires from all over the country coming together to learn and bond, as this unity is crucial for the development of the sport in the country,” observed Kabutha.
The workshop was led by Suleiman Hassan (KNF assistant fixtures secretary) along with Samuel Angasa (national team manager) with additional input from national team coach Mugisha Ali, who was invited to facilitate some of the sessions.
The event’s closing ceremony was graced by Elizabeth Wamalwa (assistant commissioner of Sports in the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Creative Economy, and Sports).
Wamalwa emphasised the importance of continuous learning for sports professionals aiming to compete at the highest levels internationally.
“Capacity building is essential for sports federations to achieve growth. The world is evolving rapidly and so must we if we want to compete with top nations and achieve significant victories,” she noted.
Attention now shifts to the KNF men’s and women’s national teams, currently in a non-residential training camp in Nairobi as they prepare for the upcoming Africa Netball Cup in Namibia, scheduled for December 9-14.
