Musingu throw support behind Shanderema after regional final loss
Kakamega County Schools football champions Musingu Boys say they will rally behind their rivals Shanderema Secondary in the forthcoming national championships.
Musingu also dismissed claims that they had appealed their 3-0 loss to Shanderema during their Western regional finals at the Bukhungu Stadium on Saturday.
“We are a peace loving football team and have accepted the results of the regional finals. We will support Shanderema as our regional representatives in the forthcoming national school games,” said Musingu head coach Brenden Mwinamo.
He said they were now focused on the next year’s competition amid confidence that they would go all the way to the nationals.
“Ours is a young squad that is growing very fast. It will be a more formidable side by next year and our competitors should, thus, brace for a tough battle,” he added.
Mwinamo said three of their players had earned call-ups to AFC Leopards and Tusker.
“Our midfielder David Esabwa has been scouted by Tusker while striker Allan Litwaka and defender Lameck Luhangala have earned slots in Leopards,” he added.
And Shanderema continued to receive accolades from area leaders with latest being cash rewards and a cow from Kakamega Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda.
Muhanda visited the school in Shinyalu Constituency on Monday during which she gifted the players, other students and teachers amid song and dance.
“Shanderema has made us proud and we shall strongly support them to clinch the national title,” she said.
The school Principal Simon Watenga said they were preparing for the nationals and assured their fans of victory.
Meanwhile, the unexpected exit of Kenya’s volleyball powerhouse Cheptil Boys from the Rift Valley regional Secondary Schools games has given a golden opportunity for Bungoma champions Namwela from Western Region to fit into their shoes.
Cheptil met their Waterloo in Andersen from Trans Nzoia, which beat them 3-0 in the semi-finals to set out a final clash with Ol Moran from Narok County which they emerged winners to book a ticket for the national finals in Kakamega. The reigning national and East Africa Secondary Schools Games champions failed to retain the regional title that would have given them an opportunity to defend the two titles they won last year to assert their supremacy in the East Africa region.
Namwela in their second consecutive appearance at the national scene in 2022, caused a major upset when they reached the finals before losing to Cheptil to confirm that it’s only time before they inscribe their name on the coveted trophy that has been up for grabs for 52 years except for 1988, 2020 and 2021.
