Murkomen: No police officer in uniform will be inside stadium during CHAN
By Arnold Ngure, July 14, 2025Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has indicated that uniformed police officers will not be allowed inside stadia during the CHAN matches in August.
Responding to questions on police officers’ conduct in handling football fans in the country, Murkomen revealed that uniformed police officers will only be at the gate and around the stadiums to ensure the security of the venues.
He also disclosed that the process of training stewards to control fans inside the stadiums would begin.
“In terms of crowd management, the police are not supposed to be inside the pitch. There are stewards who are procured and trained, and that process will start on Tuesday, July 15, 2025,” Murkomen said.
Security at stadiums
“The police will do their security work, and you will probably not see the presence of a police officer inside a stadium in uniform. You will see them outside.”
He also indicated that police officers who will be allowed inside the stadiums will perform functions other than crowd management.

“Those who will be inside will be performing certain responsibilities that are not necessarily related to crowd management,” Murkomen said.
Police training on crowd management
“Police will be at the gates to ensure that there are no stampedes at the gates and that order is restored. They will be operating within the manual for managing international matches. They will be guided by CAF officials, FKF, and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC).”
The remarks come after the Sports Cabinet Secretary stated that the tickets portal for the CHAN matches would be open from Wednesday, July 16, 2025, and that they would be online.
“As a country, we have really moved in terms of technology. Many of our services are online, and I don’t think Kenyans will have a problem buying the e-tickets,” Mvurya said.
“The portal will be open from Wednesday, July 16, 2025, so that people can buy their tickets. Tickets will sell from Ksh200, Ksh500, and Ksh1,000, to ensure that the average Kenyan gets an opportunity to come and experience the football action.”
“I would also urge Kenyans that this is a time to show your patriotism in supporting our team because Harambee Stars is our national pride,” the CS urged.
