Murkomen reveals security measures in place ahead of CHAN tournament
Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has revealed elaborate security measures in place ahead of the CHAN tournament set to be hosted jointly with Uganda and Tanzania from August 2, 2025.
Speaking during a tour of the newly refurbished Kasarani Stadium on Monday, July 14, 2025, Murkomen indicated that elaborate security measures were in place right from the airport, hotels, stadia, and tourist sites in the country.
“We want to assure the country that we have put in place elaborate security measures to ensure that our visitors arrive at the airport properly,” Murkomen noted.
Airport security
“They (visitors) are going to be facilitated at the airport; as you all know, all African countries have an exemption from Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). Entrance into the country does not require any kind of visa, so we are going to have as many visitors as possible being facilitated throughout our airport.”

“We have also put security measures at the airport to ensure that the visitors are properly screened and the right people are entering our country,” he added.
The interior CS equally noted that the CHAN visitors from all over the continent would be protected in the streets and their hotels.
Hotels and street safety
“Also, all security measures have been put in place to secure our visitors in their hotels and as they walk in the streets of Nairobi,” Murkomen stated.
“We expect many visitors to our national parks and historical places, and therefore, all security measures have been put in place by the office of the Inspector General of Police.”

He urged Kenyans to follow the laid-down procedures of buying tickets to access stadium games, noting that he does not expect a stampede at any of the gates.
Stadium security measures
“At the stadium, we have very modern gates that can only be accessed using the cards, and we do not expect a stampede at the gates in case too many people come without tickets,” Murkomen observed.
“We want to ask Kenyans that they need to go through the protocols to ensure that everybody has their tickets, and we don’t expect a spectacle around the stadium because CAF standards require that we admit only persons who are properly ticketed to come to the stadium,” he urged.
