Mombasa Governor unveils 6 fan zones for Harambee Stars vs Madagascar clash
Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nasir has rallied residents to come out in large numbers and support the Harambee Stars as they face Madagascar in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 quarterfinals that will be played on Friday, August 22, 2025.
Taking to his official X account on Thursday, August 21, 2025, night, Governor Nasir announced the establishment of six official fan zones across the County to ensure that football lovers can cheer on the national team together in a festive atmosphere.
The fan zones will be located at Changamwe Grounds in Changamwe, Uwanja wa Mbuzi in Nyali, Mama Ngina Waterfront in Mvita, Shell Beach in Likoni, Bangladesh Grounds in Jomvu, and Bilima Ground in Kisauni.
Watching party atmosphere
Governor Nasir described the atmosphere ahead of the match as electric, with fans from all corners of the County showing enthusiasm and unity behind the Harambee Stars.
“From every corner of our county, fans are gathering at our official watch parties tomorrow to cheer on the Harambee Stars as they battle Madagascar in the CHAN 2024 quarterfinals. The energy is electric, the spirit is high, and together we are united behind our boys! Let’s paint the night red, green, black, and white – victory is ours to claim! Tupatane ground!” Governor Nasir stated.

The Governor emphasised that the initiative is aimed at not only supporting the Harambee Stars but also fostering community spirit, unity, and safe public celebrations during the highly anticipated clash.
The Harambee Stars, who have impressed with their run in the tournament, are seeking a place in the semi-finals, and Mombasa fans are expected to turn out in their thousands to cheer them on.
Nairobi fan zones
During the Harambee Stars’ last Group A match against Zambia, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed listed the establishment of fan zones across Nairobi to allow supporters to watch the national team’s crucial game.
The move, revealed through Mohammed’s official X account on August 17, 2025, came as thousands of Kenyans grappled with limited stadium access due to heightened security measures.
The designated fan zones in Nairobi include Uhuru Park in Nairobi CBD, Jacaranda Grounds in Embakasi, DC Grounds in Kibera, Safari Rally Grounds in Kasarani, Dandora Stadium in Dandora, Utalii Sports Grounds in Ruaraka, Pand Pieri Grounds in Githurai, and Baba Dogo Grounds in Baba Dogo.
