Millions Gor Mahia pocketed from Mashemeji Derby despite defeat to Ingwe
Kenyan Premier League record champions Gor Mahia announced that they collected KSh7,011,500 in ticket sales from the Mashemeji Derby played at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, December 7, 2025.
The figure was confirmed in a short statement from club treasurer Gerphas Okuku, who thanked fans for “the outstanding turnout and unwavering support.”
The derby itself was a tightly contested affair that ended in a 1–0 win for AFC Leopards. Julius Masaba’s first-half strike proved decisive in the 98th edition of Kenya’s biggest rivalry, played in front of a packed Nyayo crowd.
”We collected 𝐊𝐒𝐡.𝟕,𝟎𝟏𝟏,𝟓𝟎𝟎 from ticket sales during today’s derby match at Nyayo Stadium. We sincerely thank our fans for the outstanding turnout and unwavering support,” Gor Mahia said in a statement confirmed by club treasurer Gerphas Okuku on Sunday, December 7, 2025.

Ticket categories
In the recent history of Mashemeji meetings, the figure sits with the higher gate-takings for the fixture. Match tickets were exclusively available via langopass.com. Supporters also used the USSD code for quick access. Ticket categories were:
- Regular: KSh300
- VIP: KSh1,000
- VVIP: KSh5,000
Both sets of fans were urged to buy early, as the Mashemeji Derby traditionally attracts one of the largest crowds in Kenyan football.
For context, gate-collection disclosure has become more common in Kenyan top-flight football, with both clubs and local media releasing totals after big matches. Greater use of online ticketing and packed stadia for high-profile fixtures has pushed takings higher in recent seasons, a trend visible in multiple past Mashemeji reports.

Following the defeat, Gor Mahia Vice President Sally Bolo has stated that the 98th Mashemeji Derby edition defeat to rivals AFC Leopards is a wake-up call for K’Ogalo in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League.
Gor back to the drawing board
Gor Mahia’s 1-0 loss to Ingwe on Sunday meant K’Ogalo have failed to win in the Mashemeji Derby in three consecutive editions, after sharing spoils both at home and away last season. Following the dominant display by Fred Ambani and his charges, Bolo has conceded defeat and admitted that Charles Akonnor and his men have to pick up lessons from the beating.
”A fall on a one-nil loss is not the end of our story; it’s a reminder that we must wake up, regroup, and prepare better for our next away match. Champions are defined by how they rise, not how they stumble,” she said in part.
Meanwhile, Gor Mahia left Nyayo with a consolation in the bank, but the biggest prize of the day belonged to AFC Leopards on the scoreboard.
