Sally Bolo: Mashemeji Derby defeat is a wake-up call for Gor Mahia
Gor Mahia Vice President Sally Bolo has stated that the 98th Mashemeji Derby edition defeat to rivals AFC Leopards on Sunday, December 7, 2025, is a wake-up call for K’Ogalo in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League.
Gor Mahia’s 1-0 loss to Ingwe on Sunday meant K’Ogalo have failed to win in the Mashemeji Derby in three consecutive editions, after sharing spoils both at home and away last season. Following the dominant display by Fred Ambani and his charges, Bolo has conceded defeat and admitted that Charles Akonnor and his men have to pick up lessons from the beating.

Conceding defeat
”The 98th Mashemeji Derby has ended, and today our arch rivals walked away with the day, the bragging rights, and the three points. Ingwe came in hungry, organised, and determined. Congratulations, AFC Leopards.
As Gor Mahia, we take this one on the chin,” Sally Bolo shared on her social media pages.
”A fall on a one-nil loss is not the end of our story; it’s a reminder that we must wake up, regroup, and prepare better for our next away match. Champions are defined by how they rise, not how they stumble,” she added.
Julius Masaba scored the only goal that separated the two sides at Nyayo Stadium in a match attended by 18,000 fans. Bolo also took the opportunity to acknowledge the fans who turned up for the Derby.
Fans throng Nyayo
”To every fan who came out in large numbers, filling Nyayo with colour, passion, and energy, thank you. Whether you wore green or blue, you reminded the nation why this derby remains the heartbeat of Kenyan football. We take the lessons, we keep the spirit, and we move forward. K’Ogalo forever.” Sally Bolo said.

The win took AFC Leopards to sixth on the log wth 17 points in 10 outings, while Gor Mahia’s title ambitions were frustrated. K’Ogalo, however, remained second in the standings with 19 points, one behind leaders and defending champions Kenya Police FC. The Mashemeji Derby defeat for Gor Mahia also meant K’Ogalo had lost two consecutive league matches, following a 4-1 defeat by debutants APS Bomet previously.
