Heading the final Kakamega 7s final, the Oilers had already won the National 7s title thanks to an impressive run in this campaign which had seen them win the Prinsloo 7s and played in the Kakamega 7s, Dala 7s and Driftwood 7s finals. They had finished third in the opening two legs.

A fourth consecutive win over KCB in the semis saw them lock out the bankers who were hoping to retain the title.

In the semi-final date which also served as the title decider, the Oilers had to stage a comeback after trailing 12-0 at halftime. The bankers had scored through Geoffrey Okwatch’s brace.

Oilers came from the break looking stronger and Timothy Okwemba and a brace from Chrispine Shitundo saw them win the 7s title.
