Menengai Oilers wary of Impala ahead Floodlit face-off
Menengai Oilers head coach Gibson Weru has acknowledged that their upcoming Impala Floodlit quarterfinal clash against Impala RFC poses a challenging encounter.
Menengai Oilers have previously defeated Impala once, but this time, they are facing off against Impala RFC when the latter is in the second tier.
Menengai Oilers competitiveness
In contrast, Menengai Oilers are in the top tier and have established themselves as one of the most competitive sides in the Kenya Cup.
Weru has expressed the difficulty in preparing for the match, citing the uncertainty surrounding Impala’s playing style and the fact that the game will be played on Impala’s home turf.
“The game against Impala is tricky, as they are playing at home. We are unsure of their playing style, but we will give them the respect that they deserve,” Weru stated in an interview with Oilers media.
He further mentioned that the team is currently in its seventh week of preseason training and is diligently working on improving their defence, fine-tuning lineouts, and enhancing ball retention.
Menengai Oilers possible opponents
In other fixtures, defending champions KCB will kick off their Impala Floodlit title defence by facing Kenya Harlequin FC. The winner of this matchup will proceed to challenge the victor between Menengai Oilers and the hosts, Impala RFC.
Last year’s runners-up, Nondescripts, are set to compete against the Catholic Monks. The victorious team from this contest will move on to face the winner between Blak Blad and Strathmore Leos in the quarterfinal.
The 40th Impala Floodlit tournament is slated to run from October 14 to October 28 at the Impala Club, promising an exciting and competitive rugby spectacle.
