Mathare’s hero hails self-positivity after shooting down Police

Mathare United’s Paul Kinyanjui has weighed in on his goal-scoring heroics for the SlumBoys side.
The youthful star came up clutch as John Kamau’s side eased their relegation woes to record the midweek upset, edging Police FC 1-0 in Thursday, February 21, 2025, league tie.
Speaking to the club portal afterwards, Kinyanjui revelled in his side’s first win of the year, emphasizing its importance in boosting morale around the team.
Despite enduring limited playing time for the Slumboys, the striker says he has always been switched on thanks to the invaluable reassurances from his coach.
Staying positive
“The coach has always been encouraging with his words. He always reminded me that I’m not starting because he knows when is best to use me, and not because I’m not important to the team. The message has always been my driving force and has helped me to stay positive and wait for my chance,” he said.
The striker ranked the strike as his favourite much after proving key in getting them out of the relegation mire.
“I have scored goals late on in games before. I however feel this is one of the best and most important to me. Looking at where we were and where this victory has moved us, its shows we needed this win. It’s important that we got it done,” he said.
The law enforcers were on a run of 12 games without a loss before the Slumboys’ upset.
Meanwhile, Mathare United has since moved up two places and now sits at 14th on the pile. The team’s last league win came back in December 2024 in a 1-0 win over Shabana.
The defeat meant that third-placed, Gor, reduced the gap by only a point and is now five points behind the log leaders.
