Nairobi City Stars faced a setback in their recent match against AFC Leopards, losing 2-0 at Bukhungu Stadium with Captain Calvin Masawa being red card carded.

The red card was Masawa’s first during his 13-year stay with the club and the match marked the end of their impressive seven-game winning streak.

Masawa’s card against Leopards

The match’s defining moment came towards the end when Masawa received a straight red card for a last-man challenge on an AFC Leopards breakaway forward.

Expressing his disappointment, Masawa mentioned that he felt the incident did not warrant a red card, and it tarnished his previously clean record.

“I had a clean bill since joining the premier league. Never before did I receive a red card. Now this has flawed my record,” Masawa told City Stars media.

“It’s happened, and there’s nothing much I can do about it though I didn’t feel the incident deserve that kind of punishment,” he added.

Masawa’s red card means he will miss the next two games against Shabana and Bandari in the coming weekends.

AFC Leopards secured both goals in the second half, with Maxwell Otieno and substitute Kevin Kimani finding the net in the 48th and 72nd minutes, respectively.

Masawa’s side lose

This result halted City Stars’ scoring streak, making Leopards the third team this season, after Muhoroni Youth and Kenya Police, to keep Simba wa Nairobi from scoring.

Despite the loss, Nairobi City Stars maintain their second position on the league table with 33 points, while AFC Leopards climbed three places to tenth with 24 points.

Looking ahead, Simba wa Nairobi aim to bounce back in their upcoming home game against Shabana in Machakos on Sunday, November 4, 2024.
