Man charged with racially abusing Antoine Semenyo during Premier League match
By Sky News, December 10, 2025A man has been charged with racially abusing Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo during a Premier League match.
The incident is alleged to have happened during Bournemouth’s fixture against Liverpool at Anfield on 15 August.
Mark Mogan, 47, of Dovecot, has been conditionally bailed, and will appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on 22 December.
Merseyside Police said in a statement: “We can confirm that a Liverpool man has been charged in connection with an incident during a Liverpool FC match at Anfield in August.”
During the game, Semenyo reported an allegation of racial abuse. Match referee Anthony Taylor then stopped play in the 29th minute, and a man was ejected from the stadium.

Semenyo, 25, scored twice in the second half to help bring Bournemouth back from two goals down before Liverpool went on to eventually win 4-2.
A spokesperson for Liverpool said in August that the club was aware of an allegation of racist abuse.
They added: “We condemn racism and discrimination in all forms, it has no place in society, or football”.
The Ghanaian international flagged abuse to referees during his side’s match at Liverpool on 15 August. The game was temporarily suspended in the 29th minute.
Mark Mogan, 47, of Templehill Close, Dovecot, has been charged with a racially aggravated section 5 public order offence.
He was given conditional bail and is set to appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on 22 December, Merseyside Police confirmed.
At the time of the match, Merseyside Police said a man was identified and removed from Anfield.
Liverpool went on to win the match 4-2, in what was their Premier League opener.
Racial abuse in football is a serious and persistent problem that involves the abuse of players, officials, and fans based on their skin colour, nationality, or ethnicity.
This abuse can manifest in various ways, from overt racist chanting and gestures in stadiums to online abuse on social media platforms.
