Nairobi police boss confirms 10 Saba Saba Day arrests, no injuries
Nairobi Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud has confirmed that 10 people were arrested during the Saba Saba security operation in Nairobi and will be arraigned in court to face obstruction and other related charges.
Speaking after the operation on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, Mohamud said six of them were arrested in the Pangani area, while four others were apprehended within the Central Police Station jurisdiction.
“We had apprehensions of only 10 persons. Six were arrested within the Pangani area, and four were arrested within the Central Police Station,” he said.

The regional commander said the arrested persons would be presented before court to answer the charges.
“They will be charged for obstruction and other relevant offences,” Mohamud stated.
Mohamud also commended members of the public for what he described as orderly conduct during the Saba Saba commemorations, saying their actions helped safeguard lives and property.
“The conduct of the public today has reaffirmed that Kenya remains a nation that is guided by order, unity and mutual respect. The citizens today upheld the Constitution and the law,” he said.
He added that no deaths or injuries had been recorded during the day’s events despite the heightened security operation.
The arrests came amid a heavy police presence across Nairobi during the annual Saba Saba protests, with security agencies maintaining that those detained would be processed through the criminal justice system.
