The Public Service Commission (PSC) has opened applications for the latest cohort of the Public Service Internship Programme (PSIP), offering thousands of internship opportunities for university graduates seeking hands-on experience in government ministries, state departments, agencies, state corporations and public universities.

The recruitment, advertised in the latest edition of the government’s MyGov publication issued on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, forms part of the Commission’s long-running internship programme aimed at equipping young graduates with practical workplace experience while strengthening public service delivery.

Interested applicants are invited to submit their applications via the PSC online jobs portal by the deadline specified in the advertisement.

Internship opportunities across government

According to the Commission, successful candidates will be deployed to various public institutions across the country under the Public Service Internship Programme.

The internship programme provides graduates with an opportunity to gain professional experience, build technical skills and improve their competitiveness in the job market.

Interns will work under experienced supervisors in government institutions while participating in mentorship programmes and other career development activities.

Programme targets recent graduates

The Public Service Internship Programme (PSIP) is one of the government’s flagship youth empowerment initiatives designed to bridge the gap between university education and the labour market.

Past internship advertisements have required applicants to possess a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university, demonstrate computer proficiency and meet other eligibility requirements set out by the Commission. Internships typically run for 12 months on a non-renewable basis, with successful interns receiving a government stipend and a certificate upon completion.

The Commission says the programme helps graduates acquire practical work experience, professional networks and employability skills that improve their chances of securing permanent employment or pursuing entrepreneurship.

Growing demand for internships

The latest recruitment comes amid continued demand for internship opportunities among Kenya’s growing number of university graduates.

The Commission has steadily expanded the programme over the years. According to PSC records, more than 37,500 interns have been recruited and deployed under eight cohorts of the Public Service Internship Programme since its inception in 2019.

Last year’s Cohort Eight recruitment attracted 35,659 applications, from which 13,117 graduates were shortlisted for interviews before approximately 7,000 interns were selected for deployment to ministries, state departments and government agencies.

The internship programme remains a key pillar of the government’s broader strategy to address graduate unemployment by exposing young professionals to public service operations while enhancing their workplace readiness.

Successful interns are attached to ministries, state departments, agencies, corporations and public universities, where they support service delivery while developing practical competencies relevant to their academic qualifications.

PSC has reminded applicants that the recruitment process is free of charge and warned members of the public against fraudsters demanding money in exchange for employment opportunities. Applications should only be submitted through the Commission’s official online recruitment portal.
