‘Don’t limit yourselves’ – Kipyegon’s message to girls after triumphant Budapest show
After breaking world records and winning two golds at the Budapest World Athletics Championships, Faith Kipyegon has revealed her main goal is to inspire young girls.
Kipyegon headed to the Budapest bonanza, held between August 19 and 27, where she had already made her name in the Florence and Monaco Diamond League series.
Motivation for girls
“Starting with three world records was an amazing thing in my life. I have seen my life change step by step. I was not expecting to break three world records and, after that, two gold medals in the World Championship.
“This is a big motivation; I still want to push myself to empower young girls out there to know that everything is possible in life,” Kipyegon told the media.
Apart from motivating the girls, the 29-year-old also wants her achievements to serve as an inspiration to young athletes looking to make names on the track.
“I feel I want to work hard to empower the young generation and young athletes so that they can do wonders. Do not limit yourselves.
“I try to be myself, waking up early in the morning knowing that a group of youth are following in my footsteps and want me to be their role model.
“I think this is a big motivation, breaking three world records, especially the 5000m, you know. I still do not believe I am the 5000m record holder because it was my third race since eight years ago, so it is a huge motivation,” she added.
Olympic Games focus
After winning double gold in Hungary, Kipyegon will expect to have another better campaign during the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.
“Expect more next year from me. I am still strong,” she added.
Kenya won three golds in the World Athletics Championships, with the other one brought home by Mary Moraa, who conquered the 800m race.
