Former Harambee Stars coach Francis Kimanzi has landed the opportunity to facilitate Uganda’s first-ever CAF A Diploma course under the new convention.

The FKF Coach Educator has been invited by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) to collaborate with Ugandan coach educators and deliver modules during the course, which commences on June 11, 2024.

Amenga on Kimanzi’s role

FKF Head of Technical Department Michael Amenga expressed his delight at Kimanzi’s selection.

“We are immensely proud of coach Francis Kimanzi for being chosen to facilitate the CAF A Coaching Diploma in Uganda,” he stated.

Amenga added that Kimanzi’s appointment recognized his exceptional coaching abilities and highlighted the positive impact of FKF’s investment in coaching education.

He also conveyed confidence that Kimanzi’s contributions would enhance the quality of coaching in the region and inspire aspiring coaches to reach greater heights.

Kimanzi brings a wealth of experience to this role. His coaching journey began with a caretaker stint as the Kenyan national team manager in May 2008, before being appointed full-time manager in December 2008. However, disputes with Kenyan football administrators led to his dismissal after the 2008 CECAFA Cup.

Despite these challenges, Kimanzi returned to Mathare United as manager in 2015 after a brief spell with Tusker FC.

In August 2019, he was reappointed to the Kenyan national team but was dismissed again in October 2020. He then took on the managerial role at Wazito FC, only to part ways with the club following disagreements over player salary payments with the owner, Ricardo Badoer.

Kimanzi return to Mathare

Kimanzi’s enduring commitment to coaching saw him embark on his third tenure at Mathare United, returning to the club as they prepared to face Mulembe United at the Mumias Complex in the National Super League in late match.

His return came after the resignation of Leonard Odipo following Mathare United’s 3-0 defeat to MCF FC in Machakos.

Kimanzi aims to guide his boyhood club back to the top tier of Kenyan football for the remainder of the season, bringing his extensive expertise and leadership to Mathare United once more.
