The National Para Athletics trials kick off today at the Kericho Green Stadium (Now Kiprugut Chumo Stadium) ahead of next year’s Paris Paralympic Games.

The two-day event, organized by the Kenya National Paralympic Committee (KNPC), serves as a pathway to the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games scheduled from August 28, 2024 to September 8, 2024 in France.

Speaking while chairing the local planning meeting on Tuesday at the County headquarters, the County Chief Officer in charge of Sports, Geoffrey Bett, flanked by the Chief of Staff, Edgar Towett, said Kericho was ready to host the high-level national special sporting event and that all measures have been put in place to ensure the event becomes a success.

“We are ready and raring to go for the trials. We are out to ensure all athletes are given the chance to showcase their talents and subsequent qualification for the world major event,” Bett asserted.

This event, according to KNPC, is intended to identify new sporting talents targeting young persons with disabilities and to give Para Athletes a platform to explore their talents.

Bett is upbeat the Para athletes will conquer the world and bag medals in various disciplines.

They will compete in athletics, ball games such as sitting volleyball, among others.
