Kenya’s Silko Otieno marks Leicester City debut with championship win
Harambee Stars prospect Silko Amari Otieno Thomas made a memorable first appearance for Leicester City as the Foxes edged past Charlton Athletic 1-0 in their Sky Bet Championship clash at The Valley on Saturday, August 23, 2025.
Thomas, 21, who returned to Leicester earlier this year after a season-ending knee injury sustained while on loan at Wigan Athletic, was introduced in the 73rd minute, making his senior debut for the Foxes.
“Two more changes as Silko is introduced for his #LCFC debut,” Leicester City’s official Twitter account highlighted the moment.
The match-winning moment came in the 48th minute, when Abdul Fatawu produced a brilliant strike to hand Leicester the lead. Charlton dominated possession at times and created numerous opportunities, registering 18 shots, seven on target, but were repeatedly denied by Leicester’s defense and goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk, whose crucial saves included a spectacular one-handed effort to tip away a 25-yard strike from Conor Coventry.
Despite Charlton’s relentless pressure, Leicester held firm, with crucial defensive interventions, including Caleb Okoli blocking Greg Docherty’s late effort, helping the Foxes secure all three points. The victory marked a much-needed boost for Leicester as they look to stabilize their Championship campaign.

Resilient Kenyan talent
Thomas’ journey to this moment has been one of resilience and determination. Born in England to a Kenyan father and a Jamaican mother, he is eligible to play for the Harambee Stars and has already attracted attention as one of Kenya’s brightest footballing talents abroad. His career began at Carshalton Athletic, before moving to Chelsea FC Youth, where he spent three years developing his skills before joining Leicester City in 2024.
The winger’s loan spell at Wigan Athletic during the 2024/25 season was cut short due to injury, but he made over 20 appearances prior to his return to Leicester. Thomas’ debut today signals a major milestone in his recovery and his integration into senior football.
Fans will now be watching closely as Thomas looks to build on this debut, regain full match fitness, and make a significant impact for Leicester City.
