Kenya’s Sabastian Sawe has won the 2024 Valencia Marathon.

Sawe clocked 2:02:05 to move up to the fifth spot on the best marathon all-time list.

Ethiopia’s Deresa Geleta timed 2:02:38 in second followed by Daniel Mateiko, a Kenyan, who came third after clocking 2:04:24.

“I am so excited…I am so happy…to win here today, which was my debut. It is a great moment for me,” he said.

In a statement on X on Sunday, December 1, 2024, Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen celebrated Sawe and Mateiko for making the race special.

“Hats off to Sabastian Sawe for running the fastest marathon this year to win the men’s 2024 Valencia Marathon! That was such a dominant display and in your debut to boot. Kudos to Daniel Mateiko for coming 3rd. Well done to all Kenyans who participated today. Big up, too, to the Kenyan fans who were in full voice at the finish line. You made the race special,” Murkomen stated.
