Kenya’s Kosgey eyes gold in Frankfurt Marathon
Long-distance runner Martin Kosgey returns to Frankfurt aiming for gold during the 39th edition of Mainova Frankfurt Marathon in Germany on October 30.
With a field boasting three men who have dipped under 2:06 credentials, the 39th Frankfurt Marathon showdown will no doubt send adrenaline pulse racing.
Kosgey finished second in 2016 and 2018 and took fourth place on two more occasions, in 2017 and 2019. Frankfurt was where the 33-year-old set his personal best of 2:06:41. The October marathon will be his first race in a year when he produced a solid performance to finish runners-up in Eindhoven in 2:06:56. “I want to win the race this time round. I have experience now and I know the course very well. I thank the organisers for allowing me to return and try to win the race for the fifth time,” he said.
Kosgei has three marathon wins to his credit since his debut in 2012. He started off winning in Salzburg (Austria), Marseille and Lyon (France).
He was second in Hannover and Frankfurt in 2016. This year’s race will be the fifth time Kosgei will be attempting to win in Frankfurt.
“I believe I have the strength to do well. Hopefully, it will be a fifth time luck,” said Kosgei.
