Kenya’s Aldrine Kibet makes debut for Celta Vigo U-19 against Braga
Kenyan teenage football star Aldrine Kibet made his debut for RC Celta Vigo’s U-19 team today, Saturday, August 2, 2025, in a friendly match against SC Braga. The game, at the SC Braga Training Centre in Portugal, was scheduled to kick off at 18:00 CEST.
“Aldrin Kibet makes his debut in our U-19 team! 🇰🇪🔥,” Celta confirmed the news on their official Facebook page.
The announcement has been warmly received by fans back in Kenya, with many taking to social media to wish the youngster well.
The friendly marks a major step in Kibet’s career since he completed his move to Celta Vigo last month. On July 16, the Spanish La Liga club officially announced the signing of the 18-year-old winger on a four-year contract that runs until 2029. According to the club, Kibet arrives as a youth player and will initially play for Celta Fortuna, their B team.
The club praised his pace, ball control, and attacking instinct, which gained international attention during the 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, where he represented Kenya’s Junior Stars.

From Kitale to Celta
Kibet first rose to prominence while playing for St. Anthony’s Boys High School in Kitale. He captained the school to the national title at the 2023 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) games. His standout performance saw him finish as both top scorer and Most Valuable Player, recording an impressive 25 goals and 27 assists during the tournament.
His success at home earned him a spot at the Nastic Sports Academy in Spain under the Talanta Hela programme, a talent development initiative launched by then Sports CS Ababu Namwamba. This move proved to be a vital stepping stone to Celta Vigo.
Today’s friendly against SC Braga is Kibet’s first official appearance in Celta colours, and many are keen to see how the promising youngster performs. It represents a big opportunity for him to impress the coaching staff and work towards a future in the senior team.
Aldrine Kibet’s journey continues to serve as an inspiration to many young Kenyan footballers hoping to break into the global stage.
