Kenyan trio Sheila Chepkirui, Hellen Obiri and Vivian Cheruiyot have swept the podium in the 2024 New York City Marathon.

Sheila Chepkirui won gold, Hellen Obiri took silver while Vivian Cheruiyot claimed bronze in the women’s race.

Chepkirui crossed the finish line in 2:24:35, beating defending champion Obiri by 14 seconds. Cheruiyot crossed the finish line in 2:25:31.

“This means a lot to me as it shows my training has been going well. The last mile was very hard but I pushed myself and I’m so happy. I plan to be back next year!” Chepkirui said.

In the men’s race, Abdi Nageeye won the men’s race in 2:07:39 followed by Kenyans Evans Chebet and Albert Korir in 2:07:45 and 2:08:00 respectively.

President William Ruto has celebrated the team for winning the races,
