The tournament winners from both the men’s and women’s categories will secure automatic qualification for the Paris Olympics scheduled for next month.
The teams were selected after extensive preparations at the Flamingo Beach Hotel in Mombasa, which resulted in Yvonne Wavinya and Sharleen Maywa being dropped from the women’s team, and Elphas Makuto and Jairus Kipkosgei not being selected for the men’s team heading to Morocco.
Men’s team coach Ibrahim Oduor expressed confidence in the preparation and potential of the teams.
“I have selected the best we have at the moment, a team full of energetic young guys. I have great confidence in them, having seen them play on numerous occasions, trained them, and even played with them. Given the conditions we have at the moment, there is no other way but to qualify for the Paris games, “Oduor said.
