Zimbabwean cyclists Thando Tshuma and Vusumuzi MC made history on Saturday by completing a grueling 9,300km journey from South Africa to Kenya, arriving at the finish line at Trumpet Lounge in Nairobi.

Their remarkable feat was met with a warm reception from Trumpet Lounge director Lewis Muiruri, who emphasised the significance of their journey within Kenya’s cycling community.

He noted that their success serves as a powerful example of commitment and perseverance, inspiring aspiring cyclists and demonstrating the potential for African athletes to pursue ambitious goals despite the challenges they may face.

“Thando Tshuma and Vusumuzi MC have shown us what is possible with dedication and courage. Their journey will undoubtedly serve as an inspiration to our local cyclists and to young athletes across the region,” Muiruri remarked.

Known for their extraordinary resilience, which has been celebrated throughout Africa, Thando and Vusumuzi overcame numerous obstacles to achieve this record-breaking feat, which they completed over the course of seven intense months.

“We are glad to finally have completed this demanding journey despite the challenges we faced. The level of mental toughness and endurance required is something we have displayed and hope will inspire the many upcoming cyclists in Kenya and Africa in general,” conveyed an exhausted but excited Tshuma.

Their journey was not without hardships—from physical exhaustion to dangerous encounters, extreme weather and relentless rain and soaring heat.

The couple’s ride tested their endurance and dedication at every turn.

Upon arrival at Trumpet Lounge, the cyclists were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd of Kenyans, local cyclists and enthusiasts who gathered to celebrate their achievement.

The duo’s success represents a new era in African cycling, highlighting the power of sport to unite people, push boundaries, and showcase Africa’s talent on the global stage.
