Kenya U20 secures podium finish in African Volleyball Championship
By Luke Oluoch, September 20, 2025Kenya U20 Volleyball team has concluded its campaign in the African Men’s U20 Volleyball Championship in third place after edging Uganda in the third-place play-off clash staged this Saturday, September 20, 2025.
Luke Makuto’s charges claimed a 3-1 set victory to claim the bronze medal, the result completing a comeback after falling to Egypt in the semifinals clash staged on Friday, clash.
Junior Wafalme kicked off on a positive footing, claiming the opening set on a 25-19 scores.
Uganda responded to win the second set before Kenya overpowered the Nile warriors in the subsequent two sets, showing resilience and grit for the victory.
The young guns opened their campaign on a losing note, slumping to a 3-1 in sets against Cameroon on Saturday, September 13, 2025.
The team regrouped to beat Morocco in their next clash, edging the North Africans on 26-24, 30-32, 25-20, and 25-21 set wins, to remain afloat in the continental games.
A final group victory against Rwanda secured qualification past the group stages with the team further edging Algerians to storm the final four.
The win saw the team secure qualification to the World U21 Volleyball Championship.

Meanwhile, in spite of failing to replicate the triumphant feat achieved by the Junior Malkia Strikers, who clinched the continental honours held in Cameroon in August 2025, the boys also secured qualification to the upcoming U21 World Championship.
The feat also cemented its dominance in the region with a win over a fast-rising Ugandan team.
Another of the east African’s representatives Rwanda finished at sixth.
“Our journey at the CAV B Men’s U20 Nations Champs ends with a 6th-finish in Africa. Even if our target was to qualify for the upcoming U20 World, The boys fought hard and showed a bright future ahead. Special thanks to everyone who supported us from day one,” a bowing out statement from the Rwanda Volleyball federation read.
Luke Makuto’’s team which predominantly featured a contingent Highschool boys from the concluded 2025 Federation of East Africa games will now embark on preparatio for the upcoming World Junior Championship.
