Kenya Simbas sent a strong message to second-placed Falcons and first-placed SWD Eagles in their coming final two Mzansi Challenge to be hosted at the RFUEA grounds after mauling Zimbabwe Goshawks 48-7 at the Nakuru Athletic Club on Saturday.
Kabras Sugar’s trio of Jeanson Musoga, Captain George Nyambua and Alfred Orege gave Simbas a commanding 29-7 half time lead courtesy of five tries and two conversions by Ntabeni Dukisa.
Jeanson Musoga drew first blood and moments later the captain George Nyambua extended the score to 12-0 in favor of Simbas. Zimbabwe counterattacked with a converted try scored by Patrick Macklin that turned out to be their consolation try of the match.
Blind winger Alfred ‘Seremala’ Orege was set up to score by the forwards through a rolling maul while eigthman Jeanson Musoga dashed five metres to score off a scrum down for his brace in the first half that was wrapped up by a brace by Orege who would return to get his hartrick in the returning period the team scored three tries and two conversions by Ntabeni Dukisa.
Samuel ‘TinTin’ Asati scored a try on resumption followed by Alfred Orege and Hibrahim Oyoo in a period Zimbabwe seemed to be awaiting the final whistle and take their winless plight to Harare for their home fixture against wounded SWD Eagles.
The incoming tenth and 11th rounds will be a real test for the 9th placed Simbas who will rely on home advantage against the top two sides at the RFUEA grounds.
Falcons beat EP Elephants 56-29 in Kempton Park to secure their place while the Elephants dropped a place to sit fourth on the log that now has Boland Cavaliers sitting at 3rd place. First placed SWD Eagles suffered a 29-15 defeat to the Boland Cavaliers on an away trip.
So far only Zimbabwe has not won a match but has three losing bonus points in the competition that all sides have tasted a loss but a stalemate is yet to be recorded.
A fortnight ago the first draw was on the verge of entering the log but a late try at death by Namibia Welwitschias cancelled that prospect in a continental rivalry renewal where Kenya lost by a try (35-28).
Zimbabwe’s shocking defeat in Nakuru denied them a losing bonus this time around the huge defeat in the hands of the Simbas who will next meet Falcons and Eagles have only lost once in the 2023 Mzansi Challenge.
