Kenya Lionesses were an unstoppable force during the Africa 7s pool matches on Saturday, October 14, 2023, in Tunisia, as they sailed to the semi-finals with an unbeaten run.

A 20-17 win over Madagascar in the last pool game meant that the Kenyan queens qualified for the knockout stage without losing a game in the preliminary phase.

Although Kenya conceded first, they rallied back and finally managed to beat the Southern Africans.

Sinaida Mokaya’s try saw Kenya equalise at 5-5 before Stellah Wafula scored the second try to ensure a 10-5 lead was established for the Lionesses.

In the second half, Madagascar scored two tries and a conversion before a vital try for Kenya from Judith Juma prevented what would have been an imminent fall.

After sailing to the quarterfinals with an unblemished record, Lionesses will now face the second-placed team from Pool A.

Wins over Ghana, Zambia

Meanwhile, the Lionesses had managed a 41-0 win over Ghana in their second match of the pool. This win came after they had registered a 27-0 opening win over Zambia.

Lionesses took a five-point lead when Sharon Auma scored a try before Stellah Wafula scored another try almost a minute after the opening one. Grace Okumu’s subsequent conversion was a show of dominance by the East Africans.

Auma was on fire and played a pivotal role when she scored a brace before a touchdown by Janet Okello, which was the team’s fifth try.

The dominance by Dennis Mwanja’s extended to the second half, as they scored 12 points.

By the time the final half came, the Lionesses had scored their sixth try courtesy of a combination between Okello and Auma.

Another five-pointer extension came for Lionesses courtesy of an effort by Terryu Ayesa. The impressive performance by the Kenyans saw them conclude the second pool game with a 41-0 win.
