Ken Owino confident despite AFC Leopards’ winless Premier League start
By Luke Oluoch, September 21, 2025AFC Leopards skipper Ken Owino has registered his disappointment after the team got their 2025 league campaign opener on a draw against Sofapaka on Saturday, September 20, 2025.
Speaking on Sunday, September 21, 2025, Owino admitted that they just fell short of executing their plan in the game.
Ingwe were forced to settle for a share of the spoils in their opening games as they battled from a goal down to snatch a point against Ezekiel Akwana’s charges.
“The result is not as we envisaged, as we did not get the three points. We had our plan for the game, but we did not maximise it well for our advantage,” he noted.
During the clash, Boniface Munyendo’s first-half equaliser proved sufficient to salvage a point after Sofapaka had taken an early lead, four minutes in, through Djafari Satalla.

Owino has emphasised that the team has picked up its lessons and is hopeful of making adjustments in its next test.
“We now shift focus to the next match. We have noted our mistakes, and we will plan well to make amends in the next match,” he said with confidence.

In another tie, Kariobangi Sharks and Bandari FC battled to a barren draw in Saturday’s match-up at the Kasarani Annex.
Ken Odhiambo’s team claimed a slight edge in dominance but ultimately failed to find a way past a resolute Sharks’ defence, thanks to an inspired display from Sebastian Wekesa at the hosts’ goal.
Meanwhile, the league action is set to continue on Sunday, with Gor Mahia and Shabana among those in action.
Gor will welcome Bidco United at Kasarani Stadium at 4:00 pm as Ghanaian coach Charles Akkonor makes his debut at Gor Mahia.
Meanwhile, Shaban FC will play host to newcomers APS Bomet, who will similarly be making their top-flight debut.
Ulinzi Stars will face Murang’a Seal in the third clash at the San Sebastian Park starting at 3:00 pm.
The Kenyan Premier League 2024/26 season kicked off on Friday with Robert Matano’s KCB edging Tusker FC 2-0 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
Former Gor Mahia forward Boniface Omondi Owino (Bajaj) gave the visiting team the opening goal in the 18th minute before wrapping up his brace in the 41st minute to hand the Bankers maximum points in the encounter.
