KCB’s long-running unbeaten mark came to an end after falling to a 21-7 loss to Menengai Oilers at Nakuru ASK Showground on Saturday, March 2, 2024.

The Bankers were enjoying a run of nine consecutive wins but were unable to get a home against the home side.

This is a massive victory for Oilers who were victims of a 47-3 loss against Kabras.

Oilers’ Jadah Abdon scored the opening try that was converted by Abutwalib Wesonga for a 7-0 lead.

A score and a conversion by Lionel Ajeliti equalised  the scoreline for KCB, but an additional try by Wesonga saw the Oilers extend the lead to 10-7 before halftime.

He followed that with a drop goal to see them extend the lead to 16-7 before a final try was scored by Clinton Odhiambo.

Monks fall

Elsewhere, Strathmore Leos were winners on their own turf after beating Catholic Monks 49-31.

After Leos took the lead after scoring at the corner via their right winger, they were penalised for not releasing when their fly half was on target after a successful conversion of a penalty for a 5-3 scoreline.

The second try for the home side came through Andrew Matoka, who then converted his own try to extend their lead to 12-3.

Monks fought back and scored a try through their half back before the conversion was undertaken by Sammy Omollo.

Leos’ right winger extended the lead further just before the halftime break when he scored their third try.

Monks’ Omollo scored a penalty before Matoka handed his teammates further advantage with back-to-back penalties, taking the scoreline to 25-16.

Leos’ lock scored for a 30-16 advantage before he was sent off after receiving a red card. Matoka converted to see their lead extend to 32-16.

Strathmore Leos’ lock would then go from hero to zero when he scored to give his side a solid 30-16 lead, but then seconds later he was shown a red card for poor sportsmanship. Matoka successfully converted the try for a 32-16 score.

Matoka was heavily involved again when he scored another penalty, which meant the scoreline was 35-26.

Two quick tries at the last stage of the encounter dimmed the Monks’ hopes of a comeback as Leos went on to win by a margin of 49-31.

Finally, Kabras were 24-17 winners against Blak  Blad at Kenyatta University Ground.
