Kakamega Homeboyz dare Gor Mahia as KPL enters final stretch
Yet another repartee, Kakamega Homeboyz chairman Cleophas Shimanyula has warned another bigwig in the Kenyan Premier League a beating from his team.
Shimanyula has put Gor Mahia on notice when the two sides face off in a decisive FKF Premier League fixture today at Kasarani Annex this evening.
Exactly a month after correctly prophesying that Abana Abeingo shall beat AFC Leopards in the semifinals of the Mozzart Bet Cup, Shimanyula has dared the title–chasing Gor who are sitting on the top of the table and are engaged in a neck-to-neck chase for the gong by second-placed Tusker who face Posta Rangers in Ruaraka.
A win for Rangers against Tusker and a victory for Gor against Homeboyz will mean K’Ogalo will need just a point from their final game of the season to be crowned champions.
On Monday, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo promised Rangers players a cash reward if the mailman beat Tusker. So far, Gor are leading the 18-team log with 67 points, two more than Tusker, while Nzoia Sugar are third with 63 points.
On the final day, Tusker will come up against relegated Vihiga Bullets while Gor Mahia will confront Nairobi City Stars, both matches on June 24.
Back to Homeboyz who occupy the eighth position, the club’s boss Shimanyula has said they are focused on collecting maximum points at the expense of Gor to end the season in a respectable slot with one match to end the season.
Shimanyula minced no words, saying his side will not give Gor room to win the game, insisting they have prepared well enough to beat them in their backyard.
“I just want to warn Gor it will not be business as usual. It will not be an easy game and are prepared to do the damage. We want to finish the season on a high note and it is a fixture we have penciled to win at all costs,” Shimanyula told People Daily Sports.
He added: “We don’t fear Gor , it is a well-known fact we have beaten them [Gor] before not once or twice, there is a season we beat them home and away, and so they are just a normal team just like any other in the league. We managed to beat AFC Leopards, we got a good result against Tusker, and now Gor should watch out.”
Asked whether Homeboyz are fighting to beat Gor so as to help Tusker win the title, the outspoken club owner said: “It is not the case [to help Tusker], we want to win all our remaining matches, and it happens that Gor is one of the fixtures [we are yet to play], we don’t care who wins the league anyway, but our focus is to beat Gor and just wait and see what will happen on Wednesday, there is no short cut, it is that simple, they will fall.”
Homeboyz are in the final of the FKF Cup and will face the Brewers. Should Tusker end up winning the league and the domestic Cup, Homeboyz will earn a direct ticket to play in the Caf Confederation Cup
