Kakamega 7s quarterfinal pairings confirmed ahead of day two
By Collins Amanga, July 16, 2022The final tournament of the 2022 National Sevens Circuit, Kakamega Sevens, will enter the knockout stage on Sunday 17 July at the Bull Ring with quarterfinal matches scheduled to kickstart the day.
Defending Champions KCB, Nakuru RFC, Menengai Oilers had a perfect day one winning all their group stage matches to reach the last eight as pool winners. Strathmore Leos also qualified for the quarters as table toppers.
Mwamba RFC and Impala Saracens withdrew from the competition and got replaced by Blak Blad and Kabarak University respectively.

Kakamega 7s first quarter
Gibson Weru charges are scheduled to play Catholic Monks in the first Cup quarterfinal encounter of the day after winning Pool A with a 100 per cent victory record with triumphs against MMUST, Nondies, and Vihiga Granites, amassing nine points. The National Sevens Circuit Log leaders will be eyeing their first overall title and will need to make it to the final four to increase their chances.
Monks are in the quarters for the second time this season and will be hoping to upset Oilers for their maiden Cup semis this season.
In the second Cup quarters, Reigning National Sevens and Kakamega 7s Champions KCB have booked a date against Homeboyz. It will be a repeat of last weekend’s bronze match which Homeboyz won for a podium finish.
Kakamega 7s holders KCB
KCB reached the sixth consecutive quarter after defeating Kabras 14-7, Kabarak University and Daystar Falcons to end day one unbeaten with three straight wins. Homeboyz, on the hand, sneaked into the quarters following a win 17-5 win over hosts Western Bulls, they lost to Nakuru RFC and drew 12-12 with Quins.
The third quarter has Strathmore Leos up against MMUST Rugby Club while Nakuru and Kabras who are back to the quarters will battle in the fourth quarter-final.
