In a statement shared on X on Saturday, January 3, 2025, the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) described Chano as a talented young player whose impact on the local rugby scene will not be forgotten.

Chano’s death came at a time when Kenyans were ushering in the new year, turning what should have been a season of celebration into one of grief for his family, friends, and the wider rugby community. His journey in the sport, marked by discipline and steady growth, had earned him respect both on and off the pitch.

Kenyan rugby mourns

“Kenya Rugby Union joins Strathmore University, the family, and friends of Chano Felix in mourning his passing,” KRU wrote.

According to the statement, Chano succumbed to injuries days after being involved in a road accident. “Chano sadly succumbed to injuries on the 2nd January, 2026, following an accident on the 31st December, 2025,” KRU stated.

Chano was well known within university rugby circles and beyond. He featured prominently for the Strathmore Leos, where he was admired for his commitment, teamwork, and love for the game. Before joining Strathmore, he had also turned out for Homeboyz RFC, one of the country’s most competitive clubs, further cementing his reputation as a hardworking and dependable player.
