Bandari FC prolific striker John Mark Mwakwata is optimistic about bagging more goals after opening his account with Dockers on Saturday, April 26, 2025, against his former side, Kariobangi Sharks.

The former KPL top scorer, who joined the coastal club in the middle of the campaign, made the most of a rare start by opening the scores in a 2-1 win over William Muluya’s team.

Speaking during a post-match interview, Makwata expressed optimism, stating that more will come after ending his wait for his first league goal since joining the Dockers.

“It has been important for me to get the goal. This was my second start. I haven’t been getting the nod for games. The goals will now come; I think I have just started,” he said.

The striker’s opener four minutes into the game was cancelled out by Steve Mbulere’s equaliser moments later. The Dockers were, however, spared the blushes after Beja Nyamawi once more came clutch with what proved to be the match winner at the Dandora Stadium.

The victory cemented Dockers’ position inside the top ten of the log with six games left to wrap the 2025 season.

Cool Down fans

Ken Odhiambo’s side entered the game in search of their first win of the month after playing three winless games in April.

A trip to Gusii opened their struggles on a 3-1 slump to Shabana FC before Kakamega Homeboyz’s Moses Shummah condemned them to a 1-0 defeat at home on April 19, 2025.

Addressing concerns regarding their recent form, Makwata confirmed that pressure had been building up but insisted that the win would help re-angle their focus and post impressive results in the upcoming FKFPL matches.

“We have waited to get this win. Pressure has been building up as fans demanded an end to the bad spell we had been through,” he said.

Makwata, who has previously played for Kariobangi Sharks, Nairobi City Stars, and AFC Leopards, tipped the result to spur the team forward, starting with their next tie against Kenya Police FC.

“I hope this win has now put an end to the losing streak we have had. As a striker, I feel good. There have been huge expectations from fans that I must score, and I feel a weight off my shoulders and the team’s too,” he stated.
