Onyango played a vital role as Gor Mahia successfully defended their Kenyan Premier League (KPL) title. He was also part of the Harambee Stars squad that participated in the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

For his outstanding achievements, Onyango received a prize money of Sh1 million, a 55-inch smart television, and a prestigious trophy. However, he later moved to Simba SC, where he won the league but later fell out of favor.

During his time playing for the U17 team, he showcased his skills as a versatile player, often playing in the centre midfield position and earning the nickname ‘Deco’ after the renowned Portuguese footballer Deco.
