It’s business as usual as Cereals, Nairobi water extend lead
National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) Men’s handball team and their Nairobi Water women’s counterparts are still holding forte in theNational Handball League Championships which are heating up.
NCPB saw off General Service Unit (GSU) 32-20 Sunday at the Nyayo Stadium Courts. The Cereals team have now won all their 16 matches playedin the season and has amassed 32 points in the process to sit prettyat the top albeit with a four-point cushion. In the game, Nicholas Okore led with five field goals and three penalties to his name with the trio of Wilson Mului, John Waite and Robert Maraga all weighing inwith four goals.
GSU could not quite muster the pace of the game but had five outfieldplayers contributing to their figures. Christopher Mayande had six goals and was assisted by Eric Nyamweya on five but the biggest problem for the GSU side was their defending which left spaces open.
In another Men’s game, Spartan beat Young City 36-28 in an entertaining clash. Brian Mwinami had 13 goals solo in a blistering force and was duly supported by the pair of Robert Guyo and Anderson Kaskeu whoeach posted six goals. Spartans were swift and ruthless in attack whenever the opportunity arose. However, not to be left behind was Young City who pushed their opponents all the way. Danstone Shallawe had seven goals and was closely followed in the course by Saulo Mwanthi on six, Joel Mwasa on five and Moses Okoth on four.
Meanwhile, Desert Scorpions and Buccaneers fought to the death and were separated by only two points at the close. The former won 37-35 in the epic clash and had a total of 14 scorers with Buccaneers Jectone Oyugi leading the charts with 12 goals.
The winning side had Wilson Gathimba and Leonard Chirchir. Both lead with seven goals apiece followed closely by Fredrick Wemba on six. Scorpions did a lot of running but had to be also alert and disciplined when it came to defending especially in the last few minutes when the opponents were charging hard.
