Outgoing International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach (pictured) will visit Kenya this week from Thursday to Saturday, the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) has confirmed.

Speaking in Nairobi, NOC-K president Paul Tergat stated that Bach’s visit represents a significant moment for Kenya as it welcomes one of the most influential figures in global sports.

“We are deeply honoured to host President Bach and IOC directors, whose contributions to our programmes, athlete scholarships and global engagement have been invaluable,” Tergat stated.

“This visit affirms Kenya’s commitment to fostering sporting excellence and broadening opportunities for athletes at all levels,” Tergat. He disclosed that the IOC president who is on the home stretch of his stewardship would be accompanied by a delegation of senior IOC directors, providing an opportunity for Kenya to showcase its rich cultural heritage.

President Bach’s visit marks a critical milestone in Kenya’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its global sports positioning, enhance athlete development programs, and deepen partnerships within the Olympic Movement.

NOC-K has emphasised that the timing of the visit is particularly meaningful following Kenya’s outstanding performance at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the country’s preparations for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, as well as the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

President Bach will also visit the Kakuma Refugee Camp, where NOC-K has played an active role in promoting the refugee athlete program, underscoring the importance of sports in fostering inclusion and empowering marginalized communities.

Other highlights of the visit will include meetings with Kenya’s Olympic sports leaders to discuss the current and future landscape of Olympic sports, engagement with Olympic legends, and a tour of the Kip Keino Orphanage.
