The 2025/26 FKF Premier League season is beginning to take shape, and after two, three rounds of fixtures, and some teams already completing four, the standings are tight across the board.

New faces are surprising many, while established sides are still finding their rhythm.

Shabana and Posta Rangers take an early lead

Shabana FC and Posta Rangers sit at the summit of the table, both with seven points from three matches. Shabana have shown early promise under pressure. Their 1-1 draw with Tusker on Sunday, October 5, 2025, ended a perfect start but kept them top on goal difference.

The Kisii-based club started the campaign brightly with back-to-back wins against APS Bomet and Bandari. Against Tusker, they dominated the first half and took the lead after a spell of sustained pressure. However, they could not hold on as Ian Simiyu came off the bench to level the score for the Brewers.

Posta Rangers, meanwhile, continue to impress. They share the same record as Shabana after two wins and a draw, including a hard-fought 2-2 draw against AFC Leopards at Dandora Stadium, a result that left Ingwe fans frustrated. The Mailmen have found balance in their play, scoring six and conceding four in three games, showing they can both attack and withstand pressure.

Gor Mahia find their footing

After a shaky start that included an opening loss, Gor Mahia have bounced back with consecutive wins. Their latest came on Sunday, a 1-0 away victory over KCB courtesy of Felix Oluoch’s second-half strike. The result lifted K’Ogalo to third place with six points from three matches.

Head coach Charles Akonnor has managed to steady the ship, despite concerns over the playing surface at Dandora Stadium.

“We will manage it,” he said before the match, acknowledging the challenges of the artificial turf. His players did just that, defending compactly and taking their chance when it came.

KCB, Sharks, and Ulinzi in the chasing pack

KCB, Kariobangi Sharks, and Ulinzi Stars each have five or six points and are within touching distance of the top. KCB’s inconsistency remains their biggest challenge, they have won two and lost two from their opening four matches. Their narrow defeat to Gor showed flashes of promise but also areas that need improvement.

Kariobangi Sharks picked up a vital 2-1 away win against Mathare United to move up the standings. It was a much-needed result after a mixed start that included two draws and a loss. Sharks continue to rely on their youthful energy and fast build-up play to unsettle opponents.

Ulinzi Stars have also shown resilience, collecting five points from four matches. Their 2-1 home defeat to Mara Sugar on Sunday exposed defensive lapses, but they remain competitive.

Mara Sugar and Bandari make steady progress

Mara Sugar have adjusted quickly to life in the top flight. Their win over Ulinzi Stars lifted them to mid-table, showing they can compete with experienced sides. Bandari, on the other hand, secured their first victory of the season under interim coach John Baraza. The Dockers have four points from three matches and are building momentum.

Tusker still searching for consistency

Tusker’s season has yet to take off. The Brewers have failed to win in their first four games, managing only two draws and two defeats. Their 1-1 result against Shabana showed glimpses of improvement, particularly after substitutions brought energy into the attack. Ian Simiyu’s equaliser and Teddy Dok’s involvement injected urgency that had been missing in earlier fixtures.

However, the thirteen-time champions will need more composure in front of goal if they are to climb out of 16th place. Their slow start is uncharacteristic of a team known for discipline and efficiency.

AFC Leopards, Mathare, and Sofapaka under pressure

AFC Leopards remain winless after two matches, both ending in draws. Their fans were left disappointed after the 2-2 stalemate with Posta Rangers, a game they felt they should have won. Leopards’ attack looks sharper than last season, but lapses in concentration have cost them valuable points.

Mathare United have endured a rough opening spell, losing twice and drawing once in four matches. Their defeat to Sharks added more pressure as they sit mid-table with four points. Sofapaka’s struggles are deeper, they have collected just one point from three matches and are hovering near the bottom.

APS Bomet learning the hard way

APS Bomet’s rise to the Premier League has been harsh. They remain rooted at the bottom after three straight losses, scoring twice and conceding seven. Their latest 1-0 defeat to Kenya Police FC summed up their troubles.
