Football Kenya Premier League Sofapaka FC has appointed Herbert Kunga as the club’s new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The club has confirmed the appointment of the former KPL player turned marketing specialist this Friday, September 12, 2025, ahead of the new season set to start on Saturday, September 20, 2025.

“We are very pleased and excited to introduce Mr. Herbert Kungah as our new Sofapaka CEO. He brings on board a wealth of experience and marketing skills that will be useful for the team going forward this season. Welcome, Sir to Batoto Ba Mungu,” a statement from Sofapaka read.

Kunga’s arrival comes at a time when the club stands at a critical juncture and will now be tasked with the overall strategic and operational decisions as the club wades through a transition phase.

He takes over the void left by Ronald Okoth, who ditched the club mid-year.

Okoth, a former Premier League player and winner with Gor Mahia in 2013, was appointed to the role in April 2024 after President Elly Kalekwa elevated him to the position.

He, however, stepped down from his position on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, following the expiry of his contract.

Meanwhile, the change sees the entrance of a passionate figure, hopeful of transforming his personal vision of sports sponsorship and ensuring clubs maintain sustainable models in reality.

Following his retirement, the former City Stars team manager has been a vocal figure advocating and sensitising football players and teams on mentorship program that connects athletes with education scholarships, financial/investment knowledge and life skills training opportunities.

Sofapaka looks to kick off its league campaign for the 2025/26 season.
