Defender Daniel Anyembe will not be available for head coach Engin Firat during the planned friendly against Russia on Monday, October 16, 2023, in Turkey.

According to the Football Kenya Federation, the player could not secure his release from the club in time to participate in the highly anticipated match.

“Influential defender Daniel Anyembe, who played a key role in Kenya’s most recent friendly matches against Qatar and South Sudan, has been ruled out.

“Anyembe could also not secure a release from his club in time for the match,” FKF said.

Timbe is doubtful

Apart from Anyembe, Ayub Timbe will also not be available because of an injury.

“All players called up to the Harambee Stars squad are fit for Monday’s historic international friendly match against Russia, save for Ayub Timbe.

“Timbe had a swollen ankle in camp and will wait to pass a late fitness test to determine whether he could make the starting team or at least the matchday squad,” the statement added.

Anyembe was a key player for Kenya during the last two friendlies against Qatar and South Sudan. After winning in Doha, Kenya were beaten at home by the South Sudanese Bright Stars.

Timbe was not available for the second friendly due to an injury and was released from the national team camp to join his club earlier.

Kenya will play Russia at the Titanic Sports Complex in Antalya, Turkey, with the game starting at 7:00 pm EAT.
