Harambee Starlets forward joins top South Korean side from Vihiga Queens
Kenya international forward Tereza Engesha has become the latest player to leave Vihiga Queens FC to join paid ranks abroad.
The 23-year-old Harambee Starlets striker has joined South Korean top-flight side Incheon Hyundai Steel Red Angels Women Football Club.
Engesha, who starred during the inaugural Cecafa Women’s Club championships and the Africa Women’s Champions League in Egypt, joins other players formerly from the club who signed lucrative deals abroad.
Cynthia Shilwatso ( Primera Nacional club EdF Logroño B – Spain ) Lillian Amor (ASJ Soyaux-Charente-France) Jentrix Shikangwa (Fatih Karagümrük S.K.-Turkey) and Christine Nafula (Kayserspor Kadin Futbol Takimi-Turkey) all played for Vihiga Queens before landing lucrative deals abroad.
The three-times Kenya Women’s Premier League (KWPL) champions announced Engesha’s departure on their social media pages, stating that the lanky forward will travel to Incheon soon after getting clearance from the immigration offices.
The club wrote on their Facebook page, “The Club’s Executive Committee is pleased to announce that Vihiga Queens Football Club have come to an agreement with South Korean side Incheon Hyundai Steel Red Angels Women’s Football for the transfer of Vihiga Queens’ super striker Tereza Engesha Obunyu alias ‘Terry’.”
The South Korean side was founded in 1993 and plays in the WK League (the highest women’s football league run by the Korea Football Association and the Korea Women’s Football Federation) in South Korea.
