GSU triumphs over KAPU to reach Kenya Cup semifinals
The General Service Unit (GSU) volleyball team has secured their place in the semifinals of the Kenya Cup after a thrilling 3-1 victory against the Kenya Airport Police Unit (KAPU) at the Nyayo National Stadium Basketball Court on Sunday, July 6, 2025.
The match, filled with intense rallies and dramatic moments, showcased the determination and skill of both teams. GSU clinched the win with set scores of 28-26, 26-28, 25-15, and 25-17, proving their resilience after a closely contested battle.
The first set was a nail-biter, with GSU edging out KAPU 28-26 after a series of powerful spikes and crucial blocks. KAPU fought back in the second set, levelling the score with a 28-26 win of their own.
However, GSU regained control in the third and fourth sets, dominating with a mix of precise attacks and solid teamwork. Their 25-15 and 25-17 victories in the final sets highlighted their ability to adapt and overpower their opponents when it mattered most.

GSU riding winning momentum
This latest victory comes barely a month after GSU reclaimed the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) men’s league title with a dominant straight-sets win over Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in Game Three of the playoff finals at the Kasarani Indoor Gymnasium on June 8, 2025.
In that final, GSU showed their championship pedigree, bouncing back strongly after dropping Game Two to the dockers. Under coach Gideon Tarus, they produced a clinical performance to silence their critics and underline their status as the top men’s volleyball team in the country.
Now, with momentum firmly on their side, GSU turn their focus to the Kenya Cup semifinals, where they will meet familiar foes, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF). The matches, scheduled for July 12 and 13, 2025, promise to deliver another round of high-octane volleyball.
Both GSU and KDF have a reputation for delivering top-level performances, and the clash between these disciplined sides is likely to be one of the highlights of the tournament.
