Gor Mahia’s chase for a record 22nd Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) title received a major boost on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, after front-runners Kenya Police and Tusker FC both dropped vital points in their midweek fixtures.

At the Mumias Sports Complex, league leaders Kenya Police suffered a 2-1 defeat to Kakamega Homeboyz, while Tusker’s title hopes took a dent with a 2-0 loss to FC Talanta at the Dandora Stadium.

These results have thrown the title race wide open and handed Gor Mahia a golden opportunity to take control of their destiny with just four games left in the season.

Advantage Gor

Kenya Police remain top of the table with 58 points from 31 matches, but Gor Mahia, who sit third with 53 points, have two games in hand. A win against Nairobi City Stars on Thursday, May 15, would lift them above Tusker into second place and leave them just two points behind the leaders with an extra game to spare.

Tusker, stuck on 55 points after 33 games, no longer have their fate in their hands. The brewers will now have to rely on both Kenya Police and Gor Mahia slipping up in the remaining fixtures to remain in contention.

In Dandora, FC Talanta’s Emmanuel Osoro bagged a brace, lifting his season tally to 16 goals and joining Kakamega Homeboyz striker Moses Shumah at the top of the scoring charts.

Shumah also netted in his side’s win over Police, with Glen Otunga scoring the other goal for Homeboyz. Mohamed Bajaber pulled one back for the law enforcers, taking his tally to nine goals this season.

Kenya Police still have tough matches ahead against FC Talanta, Shabana, and a potentially title-deciding clash with Gor Mahia on the final day of the season.

Tusker will finish their campaign against Sofapaka, Kariobangi Sharks, and Kakamega Homeboyz.

Relegation zone

At the bottom of the table, Bidco United’s survival hopes took a hit after a 2-1 loss to Shabana FC at Gusii Stadium.

Shabana took the lead in the 18th minute through Austin Odongo, following a defensive mix-up involving Bidco captain Peter Nzuki. Clinton Asiago leveled for Bidco in the 38th minute, heading in from an Evans Makari corner, but Brian Michira sealed the win for the hosts with a 59th-minute penalty.

Bidco, now in 17th place with 29 points, trail Murang’a Seal by three points. Nairobi City Stars sit bottom with 27 points.

Despite the loss, Bidco head coach Anthony Akhulia remained hopeful of avoiding relegation.

“All our remaining games are finals. It’s not easy to play against a team like Shabana with such strong home support,” he said.

Shabana coach Peter Okidi praised his players for the win and shifted focus to their weekend derby against Mara Sugar, who held Bandari FC to a goalless draw in Awendo.

Shabana are now fourth on 53 points, just behind Gor Mahia, with the race for top-four places also heating up.
